When you have a galley kitchen in your home, you need to be able to decorate it so that you can utilize all the available space as well as have some style in the small area.

There are decorating techniques that can make a galley kitchen appear larger as well as help to make it more functional for you. Here are some great tips for decorating a kitchen to make it work best for you.

Maximize Vertical Space in a Galley Kitchen

One of the best ways to decorate a galley kitchen and have it be functional is to utilize all the available space and this means any vertical space that you may have. If you don’t have   kitchen   cabinets  that go all the way to the ceiling, then you may be wasting a lot of space in the  kitchen .

You can still utilize all the space if you don’t have  cabinets  up to the ceiling by using the  cabinets  as a shelf and placing items on top of them. Place baskets or bins on the top to store kitchen items you may not use very often. If you don’t need all the space on top of the  cabinets , add a plant or display some beautiful dishes to add some style to the room.

Add Plenty of Light to a Galley Kitchen

Most galley kitchens tend to be dark since they are a dead end into a wall. This can make the room appear darker which is why it is important that you have plenty of light in the kitchen.

If you have a window, be sure that the window treatments allow light to filter into the room. Overhead lighting is a great idea for youe kitchen. You can even try track lighting, so that you can aim the light were you want it in the kitchen.

Make Kitchen Supplies Work Double Duty

Instead of bringing in décor items to hang on the wall use your kitchen supplies instead. This will save you space since you already need the kitchen supplies why not put them on display?

If you have nice dishes you can place them on a shelf to display in the kitchen. Decorative or monogrammed kitchen towels can be hung on the stove or even a peg on the wall to act a towel and a décor item. Get creative in how you will display the kitchen supplies. This will save you space and money.

Choose Lighter Colors for the Kitchen’s Décor

Most galley kitchens are on the small side, so you need to stay away from dark colors when painting the walls and choosing the main color scheme. Dark colors painted on the walls make a room look much smaller while lighter colors can make a room look bigger.

Choose a neutral color like cream or white for the walls of your kitchen. Also stay away from dark  cabinets  and countertops. If you have a galley kitchen, a black granite countertop may not look the best. You may also want to stay away from black appliances and instead go with white or even stainless steel.

If you have a small galley kitchen it can present a challenge when trying to decorate it, but keep these tips in mind as well as your own personal style and your kitchen can look a whole lot nicer and be much more functional as well.
